Science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke holds a copy of his book, “The Exploration of Space” at a home in Washington, D.C., in a June 9, 1952 file photo. Clarke, the author of more than 100 books, including “2001: A Space Odyssey“, died March 19, 2008 at the age of 90.
